eClinicalWorks cloud EHR increases practice efficiency and adds significant value for FQHC

WESTBOROUGH, MA.—May 23, 2023— eClinicalWorks® , the largest ambulatory cloud EHR, today announced that Indiana Health Centers, Inc.(IHC) a federally qualified health center (FQHC) located in Indiana, has reduced onboarding errors by using the eClinicalWorks Business Optimizer™(eBO®). eBO helps health centers master business analytics and data visualization. With the help of the eBO, Indiana Health Centers can streamline the onboarding process, tailor reports to the organization’s workflows, and automate manual processes.

IHC provides comprehensive medical, dental, and behavioral health care to medically underserved and uninsured populations across the state. With ten health centers, one mobile unit, and eight Indiana WIC (women, infants, & children nutrition program) locations, IHC provides essential quality healthcare to those in need.

“With the eClinicalWorks Business Optimizer, we can create a variety of custom reports tailored to our workflows. This has been essential in identifying issues, automating manual processes, and determining the success of campaigns,” said Eric Pamperin, IT support specialist at Indiana Health Centers. “I utilized eBO and worked with eClinicalWorks at another health center, so I knew it could bring similar benefits to Indiana Health Centers. So far, we’ve seen significant time and resource savings.”

eClinicalWorks helps health centers like Indiana Health Centers deliver affordable value-based care to medically underserved populations. eClinicalWorks offers a unified solution to meet health centers’ unique needs, including:

  • Ryan White Reporting: Practices with Ryan White funding can capture and produce all required client-level data for RSR reporting to the HIV/AIDS Bureau. Additionally, an HBI consultant is assigned to work directly with clients to implement workflow analysis, create templates, and order sets directly in the EHR.
  • 340B Reporting: eClinicalWorks offers a customizable solution for 340B reporting that allows practices to send secure data to 340B vendors and provides analytics for internal practice audits. An HBI consultant oversees the process of data generation, extraction, and automation.
  • Uniform Data System (UDS): eClinicalWorks is committed to offering a seamless approach to generating a cohort of summary numbers and reports for UDS annual grant submission. The eClinicalWorks UDS team aids the reporting process, analysis, and training on scheduled reports.
  • Messenger: Messenger allows the staff at Garden City Pediatric Associates to take advantage of a patient-centric suite of health and wellness campaigns that will promote outreach for important health reminders.
  • Family Planning Reporting: eClinicalWorks offers a suite of reporting solutions designed to simplify monthly and annual family planning information for Title X grantees, including flexible workflows that adapt to the practice’s specific needs.

“Using eBO, we can create reports on patients overdue for child well checks, asthma, and diabetic appointments. We also create reports to identify missing charges and immunization registry errors,” said Pamperin. “Overall, the reports are essential in determining organizational strategy, identifying financial discrepancies, and improving patient engagement.”

“We are thrilled to see Indiana Health Centers’ success with eBO. With access to financial reporting dashboards, canned reports, metadata, and consulting services, practices like Indiana Health Centers can automate manual processes and gain deep insight into business operations,” explained Girish Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “Health centers are an essential piece of our healthcare system. Over 60% of the nation’s health centers use eClinicalWorks resources like eBO and unified solutions to put everything a health center needs — including dental, behavioral health, OBGYN, and vision care tracking — all in one place.”

IHC Expanding Access to Naloxone (Narcan) at 17 Locations

INDIANA HEALTH CENTERS EXPANDING ACCESS TO NALOXONE (NARCAN) AT 17 LOCATIONS

NaloxBoxes to provide expedient, anonymous layperson access to lifesaving drug Naloxone

Distribution of Naloxone and education about how to prevent, recognize and intervene in overdoses is done with the goal of preventing overdose-related death. Overdose Lifeline, Inc. intends to purchase and place NaloxBoxes across the state, including at least one in every county.

Indianapolis, IN, USA – Indiana Health Centers, Inc. (IHC) will be installing NaloxBoxes at all their health centers and WIC locations across the state, making the life-saving medication Naloxone available to anyone who needs it. This is a free community resource available 24/7 and each box will be restocked regularly. Anyone who wants to obtain a free Naloxone kit can do so anytime, without an appointment or identifying themselves.  The boxes are part of a state-wide project coordinated by Overdose Lifeline and the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration Division of Mental Health and Addiction.

A NaloxBox is an emergency overdose kit attached to the outside wall of a public building. Each box contains multiple doses of Naloxone, which is a nasal spray that can be used for emergency treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose. The NaloxBox also includes instructions and referral information for substance use disorder treatment. The doses in the NaloxBoxes are free for the public to take.  Naloxone generally works within about 5 minutes. There is no maximum dose for Naloxone, so it can be given every 2 to 3 minutes until the person wakes up and breathes normally. Repeated doses may be necessary if a person is still showing signs of overdose, so it is still important to call 911.

The goal of distributing Naloxone and educating people about how to prevent, recognize and intervene in overdoses is to prevent deaths.  Indiana’s Aaron’s Law – named after Aaron Sims, who lost his life to heroin in 2013 – allows layperson access to Naloxone without a prescription, thus eliminating barriers to receiving the drug and using it to save lives. Effective 2015 and amended in 2016, Aaron’s Law means an individual, a family member, or friend can visit any Indiana pharmacy and request Naloxone without prescription through a statewide standing order issued by the Indiana State Department of Health.

“IHC embraces harm reduction aligned with Indiana Governor Holcomb’s initiative to have broader access to Naloxone in each county.  We are proud to provide access to this life saving medication at seventeen (17) of our locations located throughout Indiana.”  Ann Lundy, CEO Indiana Health Centers

Overdose Lifeline, Inc., an Indiana nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals, families and communities affected by substance use disorder through advocacy, education, harm reduction, prevention, resources, and support, intends to purchase and place NaloxBox units across the state, including at least one in every county.  Once supplies are stocked and the boxes are installed and functional, the IHC locations offering these NaloxBoxes will be listed on Overdose Lifeline’s Indiana Naloxone boxes and distribution center map. The boxes will be checked by IHC staff frequently, and stocked whenever needed.

IHC Announces Grant Funding for Teach Health Center Planning and Development Program

Indiana Health Centers, Inc. Receives $500,000.00 in Grant Funding for Teaching Health Center Planning and Development Program from HRSA

On March 15, 2023 Indiana Health Centers, Inc. was awarded $500,000.00 in grant funding for the Teaching Health Center Planning and Development Program (THCGME) from HRSA. IHC was one of 28 recipients to receive the THCGME award. The purpose of the THCGME Program is to support the training of residents in primary care residency training programs in community-based ambulatory patient care centers. Programs will prepare residents to provide high quality care, particularly in rural and underserved communities, and develop competencies to serve these diverse populations and communities.

“Committed to providing all Hoosiers equitable, high quality, and affordable care, this partnership is an alliance between both organizations that are mission focused for all,” stated Ann Lundy, CEO.

Indiana Health Centers (IHC) will be using this opportunity to establish a new, accredited, community-based medical residency program in family medicine to address the shortage of physicians across rural communities of Indiana where many individuals face challenges as it relates to their rural status. The family medicine program will be accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and will be established as a way to recruit and retain physicians to support rural populations beyond residency training. To establish the program, IHC has identified Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine as a key partner to plan, develop and implement a medical residency program.

“The Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine is dedicated to preparing compassionate and highly skilled osteopathic physicians to serve our community. Many of our graduates choose to practice in primary care specialties. A partnership with the Indiana Health Centers to create residency training programs that will provide care to the underserved areas of Indiana makes us all stronger,” stated Dr. Amanda Wright, DO Dean.

Indiana Health Centers has a longstanding history in Indiana, serving the state’s rural, urban, underserved and minority populations since 1977. The Teaching Health Center Planning and Development Program has put IHC in an ideal position to start a newly accredited family medicine medical residency program that will bring primary care services across the Indiana rural community. Family Medicine residents of IHC will spend at least 50% of their training time at IHC clinics and will have the opportunity to spend the remaining time of their training at various rural hospitals across the communities.

Indiana Health Centers Selects New President/Chief Executive Officer

May 20, 2022

The Board of Directors of Indiana Health Centers, Inc. (IHC) has chosen a native Hoosier to be the health center system’s next President and Chief Executive Officer.

Ann Lundy, R.N., B.S.N., M.B.A. will assume the leadership of IHC on June 1, 2022.  She replaces Elvin Plank, who retired after nine years as the President/CEO.  Ms. Lundy will be IHC’s third President/CEO in its 45-year history of serving Hoosier residents.

“Ann Lundy’s selection as President/CEO concludes a five-month process that began with 200 applicants,” said Michael Busch, IHC Search Committee Chairperson.  “Ann’s passion for ensuring all people have access to healthcare, regardless of their income or their location, was evident throughout the selection process.  Combined with her extensive experience in health center operations, her work with federal/state Medicaid programs, and her national policy experience, she rose to the top of the most talented and accomplished field of final candidates I could ever envision.”

Ms. Lundy will leave her position as Chief Operating Officer for Access Community Health Network in Chicago, where she is responsible for the management of 35 health centers and the integration of the network’s clinical service lines.  Her previous experience includes extensive work ensuring that healthcare providers successfully design services in line with Medicaid and Managed Care plans.  This work included serving as the Executive Director of HealthCura, and as National Vice President of Clinical Operations for United HealthCare.

Ms. Lundy earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from the University of Indianapolis, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Indiana University.  She earned her Master of Business Administration degree from Rockhurst University.  As a Certified Oncology Nurse, she previously managed the inpatient oncology unit at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.

“I welcome the opportunity to come full circle back to the great state of Indiana. I started my healthcare career as an Oncology RN at St. Francis hospital in Central Indiana serving those that were marginalized and suffering, and have devoted my career to those in the greatest need.   As I continue with this next chapter, I am honored to be the next CEO of IHC.  Together with the talented IHC team, we will build on the impressive momentum the organization has achieved over the last few years.  And we will continue to serve all who seek a medical home, while building equity in partnership with our Indiana communities.”

Plank, who announced his retirement last fall, concluded his IHC career on April 30, 2022.  The Board of Directors appointed IHC Chief Financial Officer Tracy Nagel as Interim President/CEO until Lundy begins her tenure on June 1.

Patient Visit FAQ’s

INDIANA HEALTH CENTERS HAS MADE SOME CHANGES IN RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

YOUR IHC VISIT:

What changes will I see before my appointment?
You will be offered a telemedicine visit if your provider feels that your needs can be met via a telemedicine session. You will be asked to come to the appointment alone unless the appointment is for a child (child should be accompanied by only one parent or guardian), or you are an adult who needs assistance (you will be able to bring one person to help you). You will also be asked to bring and wear a face covering. If you do not have a face covering, a mask will be provided when you enter the clinic.

What changes will I see when I arrive?
You may be asked to wait in your car until your appointment time. You will be screened for symptoms of COVID-19 by a staff member at the door. If you are not experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 you will go in for your appointment. If you ARE experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, you will be asked to return to your car and a nurse or provider will call you to screen you further and advise you on next steps (testing, self-quarantining, etc).

What other things will I notice?
We are offering fewer available appointment times to allow for social distancing and cleaning/sanitizing between appointments. We will have fewer chairs in the waiting rooms to allow for social distancing, and we’ve removed toys and magazines from our waiting rooms as well.

YOUR TELEMEDICINE VISIT:

How do I request a telemedicine visit?
If you believe your visit may qualify for a telemedicine visit, call your local IHC location and ask if you can schedule a virtual appointment. IHC will schedule your visit.

How do I connect to a virtual visit?
You will receive a text message that includes a link for your visit. 15 minutes before your visit, click on the link. Fill in the information that you can, and follow the directions. Once you connect, a provider will be with you shortly.

FAQ: COVID-19 Antibody Testing

What is antibody testing?

Antibody testing checks a sample of a person’s blood to look for antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. These antibodies are produced when someone has been infected, so a positive result from this test indicates that person was previously infected with the virus. We do not know yet if the antibodies that result from infection with SARS-CoV-2 can protect someone from reinfection with this virus (immunity) or how long antibodies to the virus will protect someone.

Is IHC doing COVID-19 antibody testing?

No, at this time we have decided not to offer the LabCorp blood test to detect antibodies.

Why isn’t IHC doing COVID-19 antibody testing?

All tests occasionally result in false positive or false negative results. Sometimes the results are not definitive. Interpreting antibody tests can be complicated and they don’t always provide useful information. At this time antibody testing is mostly used for contact tracing by the CDC and is limited in the information it can provide to individual patients. We do not feel that the information provided in a result would be especially helpful at this time.

Will IHC be offering COVID-19 antibody testing in the future?

We are always exploring options for services to provide to patients for their healthcare related questions. As sensitivity and specificity improves and we are able to provide better information we will revisit offering this type of test.
